I was thinking the same thing...the rocks might eat the chilli before it makes it to a cove.  What about that spot right before the water crossing where the people had the RV and were shooting when we did the cleanup?  We wouldn't have to worry about water level unless it's really flowin.

The Coves at Saguaro Lake on March 20th.

Meet at 10 AM, get to the cook off spot, set up a mini-camp and wheel from there.

Bring your best chili!!!

Ted would you be willing to lay out the details for where to meet?

I'd say let's meet at the Chevron gas station on SR-87 a little bi north of Shea (accross fromt he Fort McDowell Casino.  This is the same gas station that we met for the 4 Peaks Pickup.

To get to The Coves, we need to go North on SR-87 to Bush Hwy, and then turn right on Bush Hwy.  A few miles east on Bush Hwy, you'll turn left following the signs for Butcher Jones.  This road dead ends at the parking lot for Saguaro Lake.  Go through the parking lot until you see a green gate on your right.  Go through the green gate into the wash - this is the start of the trail to The Coves.

For those of you that don't meet us at the gas station, you can catch us at the green gate at Butcher Jones.

EDIT:  Please change the title of this thread to include the date and time.  Thanks!

Hey just a heads up, the gate was closed when I was up there 2 weeks ago.  I think it was because of the storms that we had, but might want to have a backup plan in case it's locked up.

The Sycamore Creek area where we did the clean up might be a good back up. Its close enough to the coves location and it should still be fairly clean.

I concur that this would be a good back-up location.  I will run by there in the morning before we meet up at the Chevron to make sure the gate is open.

Wasn't the original concept of the Chili Cook off to attract new members by making it easily accessible.  Just a random thought.

If the gate is closed to the first location, the second location should be close by to the first.
Sycamore creek is close and in my opinion easy to get to. Even if there is water crossing should not be a problem.

However, even closer are any number of the picnic areas on the Bush Highway.
There is the big one on the corner just before you turn up toward the Beeline where I took this shot.

and there are those between that one and Red Mountain, at which I took this shot.

If anyone feels like the Sycamore Creek location is bad second location due to the recent weather we have been having  perhaps we should pick one of the other picnic areas with all the built in amenities such as covered tables and such.

Best we figure this out now then on that morning when it could quite possibly be raining.

It was already set that the Cook Off was going to be at Saguaro, in the main parking area, at the picnic area... easily accessible to all. This was what was voted on also.

So, everything is already set! We just have to wait for the date to get here.
Look forward to seeing everyone there!  Wink

Thats correct, but what is already set is the primary meeting spot.
Then this happened...

So what we are talking about now is a possible secondary location, a back-up, should the primary be closed when we get there.

As you stated, the primary location is settled and not in dispute.

For the Far East Valley folks, Ellsworth/Usery Pass to stop sign at Bush Hwy(Salt River Tubing is right there) turn Right and follow past the lake to Butcher Jones Rd on right.

I will be heading straight to Saguaro that morning and will more than likely be there around 9:30 and will meet everyone in the parking lot for the cook-off.  From there we can head to the coves if gate is open, or to secondary location (Sycamore, Four Peaks, other) for some wheeling.
